Family displaced after early-morning house fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Firefighters battled a single-family house fire early Tuesday morning, which displaced a family.

The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responded around 5:30 a.m. to a house fire call in the 1700 block of Brackland Street, near east 7th Street. It took the crew about 15 minutes to put the fire out.

A couple and the man's mother were inside the home at the time of the fire. The mother is being treated for smoke inhalation at UF Health Jacksonville.

The Red Cross is helping a family who live in the home, and officials estimate about $5,000 in damage.

The owners said two of their seven dogs died in the fire.

JFRD says it has had some inconsistencies with the origin of the fire, which now has the State Fire Marshal investigating the fire.
