Guns found at 2 Jacksonville high schools

A gun was found on the Ed White High School campus on Friday, Duval County Public Schools confirmed.

Several suspects were detained, as people in a vehicle were stopped as it was coming on campus around 1:30 p.m., according to DCPS spokesperson Mark Sherwood.

A firearm was found in the vehicle, but it is not known at this time if the gun was loaded or what type of gun it was.

Authorities are trying to determine if those people in the vehicle are Ed White students.

Some Ed White students tell Action News Jax no announcement was made about the gun.

DCPS issued the following statement on why the school wasn't placed on lockdown:

"Thanks to the efforts and quick action of Duval County School Police, a potential threat at Ed White High School was neutralized. Because the suspects were in custody and the incident was isolated and contained by law enforcement, Duval County School police recommended students could be dismissed safely without interruption."

A gun was also found at Terry Parker High School on Friday. That gun was loaded and no shots were fired.
