St. Augustine, Fl. (WJAX/WFOX-TV) — Folks living near some of the hardest hit areas in St. Johns County are making sure the youngest storm victims have a happy Halloween.
Weeks after Hurricane Matthew, debris still lined the Davis Shores neighborhood all around Barbara Westfield’s house on Anastasia Island.

“They’re all calling this [Davis Shores] ground zero. This area is devastated,” Westfield said.
Families who live in the nearby Lighthouse Park neighborhood, like Teresa Mahon, said they are getting ready to host kids from Davis Shores.
“We’re decorating, pulling out lights and buying 15 bags of candy,” Mahon said.

Then there is the county-wide storm debris cleanup.
Last Wednesday, St. Johns County leaders gave Action News Jax exclusive access to where crews were grinding up massive piles of storm-damaged trees.
Engineering Manager Greg Caldwell tells us it could take until mid-November until street crews can make their first pass through the entire county.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience, we're working with people who lost their homes to expedite,” Caldwell said.
