Huguenot Park in Jacksonville opens after damage caused during Hurricane Matthew

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Huguenot Park in Jacksonville reopened Tuesday after damage caused during Hurricane Matthew.

During the storm in October, the park's main access road, office building, dunes and shelters were badly damaged.

The City of Jacksonville closed the park and City Council voted in December in favor of approving $550,000 to get the park back open.

City officials estimated it would reopen in Spring but diligent work to address the park's immediate needs and damages helped them reopen the park on Jan. 31.

City officials said while the park is open, ongoing repairs require alternate hours.

The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Camping and shelter rentals are not available, city officials said.
