Jacksonville bar open night after deadly shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A New Town bar was back open for business Friday night after customers witnessed a deadly shooting in the parking lot Thursday night.

A grandmother was killed in that shooting. Jennifer Nelson, 48, was shot while sitting in a car.

Ramonda Fields was inside Kelly's Place, at the time of the shooting.

“I noticed all of those casings were in a street, until I came out of the restaurant more, and then I noticed there were two of the evidence markers closer to the vehicle, right next to the vehicle. I knew that in order for those casings to be that close to the window, obviously someone shot at close-point range,” said Fields.

Nelson was a mother of four kids and grandmother of five.

Although Fields believes Nelson was targeted, there is also a lot of random crime in the neighborhood. Since the beginning of the year, there have been three homicides, 27 assaults and 23 thefts within a half-mile radius of Kelly’s Bar.
