Navy sailor, wife charged with child neglect resulting in disfigurement in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Navy sailor who served at Naval Air Station Jacksonville and his wife are accused of ignoring the abuse of a child to the point of permanent disfigurement.

Gregory Haywood and his wife Ingria Haywood are both charged with child neglect with great bodily harm.

Gregory Haywood was arrested by Clay County deputies at his home on Dec. 7 and his wife turned herself in.

Their arrests came after an investigation into the abuse and neglect of a girl in Clay County between October 2014 and April 2016.

Arrests reports are heavily redacted to a point where it doesn't show how the Haywoods knew the young girl.
 
The reports said the Haywoods failed to make a reasonable effort to protect a child from abuse and neglect from another person.

The neglect of the victim is based on repeated conduct that resulted in the victim obtaining great bodily harm, permanent disfigurement and permanent disability, the report said.

The child was placed with family in Miami, according to the report.

Details from Gregory Haywood's naval career show he reported to NAS Jax in 2009 and was promoted to petty officer first class in 2011.

Gregory Haywood's next court date is Jan. 11, 2017.
