People swim at Jacksonville Beach despire lifeguards' warnings

The rough beach conditions didn’t deter some people from going to the beach after Tropical Storm Hermine passed Jacksonville.

Caleb Licht and his friends even went in the water despite lifeguards' warnings not to.

“It’s wild, there’s rip currents everywhere,” Licht said.

Lifeguards were going up and down the beach warning people about the rough surf and encouraging them to stay out of the water.

Licht and his friends went into the water at one spot, and came out of the water way down the beach.

“If you aren’t fighting it, in like 15 seconds, you’re 20 feet down the beach, it keeps pulling all day,” said Licht.

Amanda O’Kelley also came out with her friends.

“We came out, my friend’s never been in a hurricane, she’s from Michigan,  so we came to see the waves and stuff,” said O’Kelley.

She said they were just getting their feet wet and would save swimming for another time.

Lifeguards say that if you are ever concerned about the water, their lifeguard building is on the way down to the beach, and you can stop by and ask them about the conditions.
