Pizza place closed because of roach issue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A health inspector shut down four restaurants this week for pest control issues.

Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith visited Napolis Pizza Cuisine on Arlington Road. A health inspector saw live roaches, 20 dead roaches and a blackish-green mold-like substance in the ice machine. It was temporarily shut down.

They were not happy to see Smith when she stopped by to ask questions about their pest control issues. A man inside the kitchen area came forward yelling “out” multiple times and made a shoo-ing motion with his hands.

Napolis Pizza still had pest control issues at a follow-up inspection, so it remained closed. It was allowed to reopen after another follow-up inspection.

At Casa Marina Hotel and Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach, a health inspector saw more than 14 rodent droppings, live ants and flies in the kitchen, and issued a stop sale on sugar because it had debris in it. The Casa Marina restaurant was temporarily shut down, but was allowed to reopen at the follow-up inspection.

The Bono’s on Jammes Road was temporarily shut down two weeks ago, but is back on the list. A health inspector saw a live fly near the cook line, live roaches and issued a stop sale on ribs and chicken because of a temperature violation. It was temporarily shut down and allowed to reopen after a follow-up inspection.

At Denny’s in St. Augustine on State Road 16, an inspector found 20 live roaches, flies in the kitchen area and issued a stop sale on tomatoes, batter and butter due to temperature issues. It was temporarily shut down but allowed to reopen during the follow-up inspection.

There are no clean plate awards this week on the Restaurant Report.
