Protecting homes from trees during Hurricane Matthew

Monday afternoon Tree Masters Inc. spent hours trimming trees in Atlantic Beach.

Our crew met up with theirs during one of six jobs they had to complete for the day.

“There’s still a lot of storm damage from the last storm. I mean, there are only so many tree companies in Jacksonville and we have a backlog of about a month now,” said Joe Lee, with Tree Masters Inc.

Lee said it’s best for homeowners to make plans ahead of a storm to get trees on their property trimmed.

He said they have been really busy the last couple of months, and with the fourth storm this season possibly approaching our area in the next couple of days, they continue to make house calls.

We spoke to the homeowner who hired the crew, he says. He said he needed them to trim the Oak tree over his roof so he can eventually get a new roof, but Lee says it's perfect timing for the job, with the threat of wind and rain later this week.

"We’re going to be trimming the roof line back on this oak tree to get it off the roof so the wind won’t blow it back and forth and tear the shingles off,” said Lee.

Lee says his crew has six to 10 jobs each day, and one particular area is keeping them busy.

“Most of these out here from Atlantic Beach to Ponte Vedra. A lot of big oak trees that hang over the homes look very, very pretty but they are very, very dangerous,” said Lee.
