Troubled Orange Park motel gets name change

The Rodeway Inn changed its name to the Parkway Inn.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A crime-plagued and troubled Orange Park Motel has received a name change as it faces the possibility of closing down.

The Rodeway Inn has now been named Parkway Inn.

The motel has struggled with shootings, prostitution and a meth bust in February.

The Town of Orange Park has declared the motel a public nuisance because of the crime.

Action News Jax tried to talk to motel management about the name change but were told to call the station’s lawyer.

When we called the lawyer, we were told, “no comment.”

We asked the Department of Business and Professional Regulation whether the motel registered the name change with the state.

A spokesperson with the agency issued this statement:

“According to the Division of Hotels and Restaurants' records, the current DBA name on file for license MOT2000155 is 'Rodeway Inn' with a primary license name 'Jax Inns Inc.' Public lodging establishments are encouraged to inform the Division when a DBA is altered, and a DBA name can be changed at any time during an inspection or through a request to the Division.

"For your background, we have notified the Division of Hotels and Restaurants of the potential DBA name change for this establishment.”

The town of Orange Park has asked a Clay County judge to allow for the motel’s closure. The judge will make a decision on June 8 whether it will close.

Town officials declined to comment on the name change.
