Woman shot at close range in Jacksonville's Moncrief area, shooting caught on surveillance video

Action News Jax obtained exclusive surveillance video that shows a man walking up to a porch before shooting a woman at point-blank range in front of two witnesses on Monday afternoon.

“I saw that valuable piece of evidence that law enforcement can use,” said Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson.

That piece of evidence is the video, showing the graphic before and after moments of a woman who was shot while sitting on a porch in a Moncrief neighborhood. The video shows two men and a woman outside the home and then another man can be seen walking up and pulling out a gun.

“Particularly, if it’s a good quality, where they can kind of focus in on the actual subject, they can see who the shooter or shooters are in the video,” said Jefferson.

Jefferson, who is a former officer Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said although the video is graphic, it’s the one piece of evidence police can and will use to solve this case.

“It’s a wide shot, so it showed directly across the street. It saw this crime in progress. It saw it actually happen,” said Jefferson.

Several neighbors say they heard multiple gun shots.

“Yeah, five or so. At least five. Scary. It just gets worse and worse every day. You’re scared to sit on your porch. This is a nice beautiful day. You should be able to enjoy your day without something going on like that,” said Sheryl Coleman. “I just can’t explain it. It’s just a feeling that’s come over me since it happened. I just pray that the girl is OK."

Neighbors also tell Action News Jax they want more police officers to patrol their neighborhood. They also plan on talking to their city councilman about starting a neighborhood watch program.
