SJCFR responds to fire at World Golf Village Renaissance Resort

St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded Thursday night to a fire at the World Golf Village Renaissance Resort & Convention Center.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 8:15 p.m. and found significant smoke in one of the convention ballrooms where a meeting was being held and people were evacuating the building.

Two sprinklers were activated and were successful at suppressing the fire, SJCFR Lt. Snell said.

Firefighters found that the fire was out, but they "still had to complete significant operations, including smoke removal/evacuation, salvage and overhaul," according to an SJCFR Facebook post.

Guests were able to re-enter all portions of the building except the convention center, Lt. Snell said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Florida Federation of Fairs & Livestock Shows 2016 convention was taking place inside the convention room, a convention attendee told Action News Jax. They said millions of dollars worth of equipment was inside the room, which is 80 percent filled with water.

That attendee said the fire was an electrical fire that came from a computer. No one was inside the room at the time of the fire.
