Son: Oscillating fan causes pastor's Orange Park home to catch fire

A local pastor's home caught fire in Orange Park on Tuesday night, destroying memories of his late wife.

The fire happened on Aquarius Concourse. Jeffrey Smith tells Action News Jax his dad was in the other room when the smoke alarm went off.

He went into the study and Smith said his dad said the oscillating fan sparked, became engulfed in flames and then fell on the floor, catching the whole room on fire.

He said his dad quickly ran out of the house calling him.

"He was really emotional, sounded distraught," Smith said. "He called me frantically just trying to get out the house, there was a fire and (he) needed help."

Smith said the den housed pictures of his mother, who passed away.

About one-third of the house has damage and Smith said his dad has smoke inhalation but is expected to be OK.

Smith said his dad will be staying with him until they can repair the home.
