St. Johns County warns residents of Hurricane Matthew scam phone calls

St. Johns County is cautioning residents to be aware of scam phone calls giving false information regarding Hurricane Matthew property-damage assessments.

The reported scam phone calls have been automated messages from non-county phone numbers. The calls inform residents that St. Johns County staff will conduct damage-assessments on private property.

St. Johns County said they do not direct phone calls to homeowners when it comes Hurricane Matthew property-damage assessments.

To report or confirm the validity of any phone, the county said to call building services at 904-827-6800.
