St. Johns deputies: Man, woman dead in possible murder-suicide

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible murder-suicide after one woman was found dead at a home and an injured man later died at the hospital.

Detectives got a report of shots fired in the 4400 block of Carter Road just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies found one person, 53-year-old Kathy Edwards, dead, and another person, 57-year-old James Edwards, injured inside an apartment.

Both had "trauma consistent with at least one gunshot wound each," SJSO said.

Kathy Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene, SJSO said, while James Edwards died from his injuries at an area hospital.

SJSO said the couple were estranged and "Mrs. Edwards had been provided current possession of the home, where the two were located this evening."

"My heart's in pieces, man. We just buried my daddy, 3 years, 5 years before, our brother was murdered, and now my sister is murdered. Yeah, this is rough, this is a rough time for the family," said David Wilson, Kathy's brother.

Deputies said they have responded to the home multiple times previously.

No other suspects are being sought at this time and the investigation is ongoing, SJSO said.
