St. Johns firefighter, dispatcher lose jobs after Belleza condo fire internal investigation

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Two St. Johns County Fire Rescue employees are off the job following a massive condo fire at Belleza in Ponte Vedra Beach.

A memo outlining an internal investigation into firefighters' response last month was released Thursday.

A dispatcher was fired and the firefighter in charge of the first responding truck resigned during the investigation.

A neighbor called to report the smell of smoke outside the Belleza condos July 13. According to the report, the fire truck sent first to investigate did not enter the complex or stop to fully investigate, essentially driving by with the windows down. 

Alton Robey, the company officer in charge, resigned during the internal investigation.

According to the report, the dispatcher, Lona Williams, was fired for taking a second 9-1-1 call from the same woman and not  sending the fire truck back to look again for the fire.
