One teen is dead and two others are in the hospital with severe injuries after they were ejected from a stolen car during a crash in Arlington on Sunday, according to officers.
The teens were in a Honda Pilot SUV that was reported stolen in Mandarin when they crashed near the corner of Arlington Road and Rogero Road around 4 a.m., according to JSO.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the teen driving the SUV and another teen, both 14 years old, survived the crash.
A 16-year-old identified as Ruben Kesley was killed in the crash, according to JSO.
The Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed, and the driver failed to negotiate the right turn onto Rogero Road.
Local pastor Andreaux Bordeaux told us as a community we need to offer more guidance to young people.
“They’re troubled children, but we can’t run from them, we can’t be totally afraid of them,” said Bordeaux.
The car crossed the center concrete median and jumped the concrete curb onto the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street, JSO said.
It then struck a concrete wall and rode along the wall until it struck a large concrete utility pole.
The impact with the pole caused the front end and engine to separate from the vehicle and ejected the three juvenile occupants.
Bordeaux said through the power of prayer, troubled teens can find the right path.
“Each one of us can get one of them up under our arm and we can love on that child and mentor that child. Help that child out the best that we can,” said Bordeaux.
Kesley was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to UF Health, where they are listed in critical but stable condition.
