Man dies after 84-year-old loses control of car on I-95 in St. Johns County

A man died after an 84-year-old lost control of his car and crashed on an I-95 exit ramp in St. Johns County.

George Pellicer, 84, lost control of his Volkswagen Beetle on the exit ramp to S.R. 16 at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Pellicer's car crossed the westbound lanes of S.R. 16, hit a curb and became airborne.

The car landed on the driver's side of a Subaru Legacy that was stopped at a red light.

The driver of the Subaru, 64-year-old Roger Reik was airlifted to Orange Park Medical Center in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

Passenger Christine Reik, 64, had minor injuries after the crash. She and Roger Reik are from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Pellicer, who lives in Hastings, has serious injuries and was taken to Flagler Hospital.

Troopers said charges are pending.
