Veteran carjacked at gunpoint at Jacksonville apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Another stolen gun is on the streets after a local veteran was carjacked and had a gun pointed to his head.

Action News Jax Cole Heath was the only local reporter to speak with victim Tim Ferguson after he got his Mercedes back, but the gun he kept in his glove box is still missing.

Ferguson said at least two masked gunmen pointed a gun to his head and stole his car last Tuesday at the mailboxes of his Arlington apartment complex on Merrill Road.

“I asked why, he said, 'I’m going to shoot you,'” Ferguson said.

“You did the right thing complying with their demands, complying and fortunately you got your car back,” Action News Jax Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson told Ferguson.

Ferguson got his car back Monday afternoon after police found it at a Springfield apartment complex parking lot about 10 miles from his home.

The gunmen are still on the run.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office statistics show out of the 505 auto burglaries in Duval County so far this year through September, 559 guns were stolen out of those vehicles.

“Usually if they’re stolen, they’re used in another crime more often than not,” Jefferson said.

“Oh man, that makes me feel bad,” Ferguson said, “I purchased the weapon and you have some idiots out there with my weapon.”
