Victim to cover cost after Jeep rams home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are seeking the driver of a Jeep Wrangler that plowed through a woman’s home while she was sleeping.

The incident happened on May 6 in the Argyle Forest neighborhood.

Police said they know who owns the vehicle, but can't prove who was driving on the night of the crash. The victim, Lauren Daniels, said she has been dealing with the owner's insurance company, which may cover only $10,000 of the damage, leaving her to cover the rest.

Daniels said the crash caused about $60,000 in damage.

"I'm going to have to be the one to pay all the deductibles, and I don't think that is anywhere near right. I was in my bed sleeping," Daniels said.

Police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run crash. But with no arrests made and little information available, the victim is questioning how seriously her case is being treated.

Action News Jax Crime and Safety expert Ken Jefferson said police are likely trying to figure out who was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

Jefferson said the driver, once he or she is identified, will likely face charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage. He said too much time has passed to charge the driver with any kind of impaired driving.

"No one has called me. They told me they would call and give me an update," Daniels said.

Daniels said the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told her that it has 10 days to follow up with her case, and after that if it isn't resolved by that time, authorities will have to move on to more important incoming cases.

“I don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” Daniels said.
