Here’s a recap of the latest episode of "Empire," titled “The Unkindest Cut.”
Nessa sabotages Tiana.
Andre and Nessa continued in their plot to take over "Empire." Nessa asked to shadow Tiana while she rehearsed for a fashion show performance. The fashion designer made Tiana a couture dress to wear during the performance. Nessa took the dress and “accidentally” set it on fire.
Tiana got upset and launched into a speech about how the performance was nonsense anyway. The footage from her angry tirade leaked and the fashion designer canceled the performance.
Andre convinced the designer to go forward with the fashion show by using some vicious methods, and she uses Nessa as the performing artist.
Lucious’ mom fools an FBI agent.
One of the opening scenes was Lucious, his mother and Anika having dinner at a restaurant. They were surrounded by FBI agents who had earpieces communicating with Tariq, the FBI agent who has been investigating Lucious all season.
The agent reaches out to Lucious’ mother to get intel on Lucious. She secretly meets with him and gives him information. One of the last scenes of the episode reveals that she was actually giving him false information and helping Lucious.
Jamal calls Lucious out.
Jamal wrote a song in response to Lucious telling him he was not allowed to publish his “Dear Mama” song, an ode to Cookie. The song was about how Lucious ruined Cookie’s life and Lucious’ violent rein over their family and business.
Jamal’s song lyrics said, “If you live by the sword, you die by it, too.”
Jamal’s lyrics called Lucious onto the carpet. Lucious responded by revealing that Cookie is the one who put a hit out on Freda Gatz’s father. Jamal was shocked by this new information and further hurt by his family.
