BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — An apparent tornado touched down Wednesday in Broward County, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
The NWS has not confirmed if it was officially a tornado.
WFTV Channel 9 Orlando Meteorologist Brian Shields said weather data isn’t conclusive yet, but “it definitely looks like it was a tornado.”
A tornado warning for the Coconut Creek area ended at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Numerous reports about damage to utility lines and property in connection with the storm were received.
The threat of severe weather Wednesday is highest in South Florida, and more tornadoes are possible, Shields said.
Central Florida is also expected to see hazardous weather later in the day.
Afternoon thunderstorms will be capable of producing lightning and wind gusts up to 40 mph, the NWS said.
