None — JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Supreme Court recently ruled against a major book publisher in a copyright lawsuit involving the sale of foreign textbooks. It's a big win for consumers.
The US Supreme Court, by an overwhelming vote, decided you have more rights to buy stuff at a bargain price. It involved an obscure US college student form Thailand. He discovered on visits home that it was much cheaper to buy the textbooks he needed for college in Thailand than they were at the university he was going to in the United States.
So what did he do? He set up a business where he would buy textbooks in Thailand, bring them to the United States and then resell them to college students.
The textbook industry went after him and tried to destroy this guy financially. The Supreme Court said no way, leave him alone. What it means is that a lot of things that we buy, we pay higher prices here than we do overseas. Now that's going to stop, because people are going to buy them overseas, bring them here. This means you'll be able to buy them cheaper.
