Firefighter stabbed last October reassigned after DUI arrest, JFRD says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: Charges against Latorrence Norris were dropped on April 3, and the case was dismissed.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Unsure if the driver was experiencing mechanical issues, the officer activated his police lights, the report said. The officer asked Norris to place the car in park several times but he did not.

Latorrence Vander Norris, 35, was arrested on an alleged DUI charge at 12:26 a.m. on Thursday, Feb, 13. He was the same firefighter that was stabbed while transporting a patient to the hospital in October.

According to the arrest report, Norris was seen stopped at a green light when an officer with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office approached the vehicle. The officer stated that he saw the car’s reserve lights come on, the car begin backing up, go into park and back in reverse.

The officer said he noticed that Norris’ eyes were bloodshot and watery, and that his speech was slurred and mumbled, according to the report. He then requested a DUI unit.

The report stated that Norris performed poorly on all DUI exercises and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He was transported to the pretrial detention facility, police say.

Norris has been temporarily re-assigned to an administrative, 40-hour week, according to JFRD.
