Driver hurt in crash on I-295 and Wilson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man from Jacksonville is hospitalized with critical injuries from a crash on I-295 near Wilson Boulevard.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man lost control of his 2002 Chevy Avalanche and hit a guardrail.

The driver, identified as 57-year-old Michael Owen McDonald, was thrown from the truck.

FHP rerouted traffic through the right emergency lanes while authorities investigated.

He is recovering at UF Health Jacksonville.

Charges are pending against McDonald.  The FHP also said the crash may be alcohol related.
