FLORIDA — Governor Ron Desantis’ executive order suspending evictions is set to expire after May 17. Watch the above video for the full story.

  • Jacksonville tenant, Louis Vassallo, tells Action News Jax he has yet to receive stimulus or unemployment benefits.
  • Senator Audrey Gibson (D-Jacksonville), sent Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson a statement, explaining why she believes Governor Desantis should extend the suspensions.
  • “Thousands of people are unemployed including both wage earners in a household, and are still waiting on their unemployment benefits & the additional Cares Act $600,” said Senator Gibson. “Many in our state live paycheck to paycheck with little to no savings. The executive order extension would ensure the avoidance of homelessness for individuals and families.”
  • Action News Jax reached out to the Governor’s office asking whether an extension would be implemented, and if so, how soon. We are awaiting a response.
