USS Shamal seizes more than 4,000 pounds of marijuana on its final mission

Jacksonville, FL. — USS Shamal was welcomed back into port for the final time at Naval Station Mayport Saturday.

While the ship may be small, its time at sea made a large impact.

“Seven suspected narco traffickers were detained, and they’re going to be prosecuted,” Lt. Commander Daniel O’Neill said.

Working alongside the U.S. Coast Guard and a team from Kings Bay Georgia, they executed about six chases. Sailors seized 4,789 pounds of marijuana—an estimated street value of $8 million.
