FSU shooting: 1 shooting victim released from hospital

What we know right now: 

  • 3 were injured in the shooting. One of the victims has been identified as Nathan Scott, 30, who was released from the hospital Friday night. Tallahassee police have identified the other victims as Elijah Velez, 18 and Farhan Ahmed, 21. Velez was treated and released at the scene, Ahmed is still in the hospital.
  • The gunman, who was killed by police, has been identified as Myron May, a graduate of FSU, said a source to the AP. 
  • The Strozier library reopened at 9 a.m. Friday. 
  • 4 of the 8 packages sent by the shooter have been recovered. Postal inspectors would not say what the contents of the packages were besides papers and that nothing was dangerous.

A gunman was killed after three people were injured on the Florida State University campus early Thursday morning.

The shooting happened at the Strozier Library around 12 a.m.

The AP reported that a source named the gunman as Myron May, who was a graduate of FSU.

Nathan Scott, 30, was shot in the leg, according to the Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. Scott was released from the hospital Friday night. 

The Tallahassee Police Department on Friday released the names of the other two victims; Elijah Velez, 18; and Farhan Ahmed, 21.

Tallahassee Memorial released the following statement on Ahmed Thursday night: "The family of the other patient involved in the shooting at Florida State University requests that TMH not release any additional information at this time and that the media respect their privacy."

Velez, who suffered a "grazing" wound, was treated on scene and released.

FSU President John Thrasher said in a statement, “The three students who have been injured are our highest priority followed by the needs of our greater university community.”

The FSU police department and Tallahassee Police Department are investigating the incident.

"We are increasing security measures and providing a strong law enforcement presence on and around campus today," said Thrasher in a statement.

Gov. Rick Scott spoke at the campus at 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Scott said he will be reaching out to the victims of the shooting and their families.
