Potential spread of COVID-19 concerns lead to public bathroom concerns

With many restaurants, malls and businesses reopening, local health experts are warning people to beware of public restrooms.

Erin Bromage, an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, has a doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology.

In a recent article, he said public restrooms pose a risk for the spread of coronavirus because there are several high touch surfaces.

The CDC recommends that door handles, surfaces of restrooms, handwashing stations and diaper changing stations should be disinfected after every use.

Many local businesses are upping the number of times they sanitize their restrooms. Simon Property Group has taped off every other sink and urinal in restrooms to encourage social distancing.

McDonald’s is requiring its employees to clean bathrooms every 30 minutes.
