Police say two people died after a state police helicopter crashed Saturday near Charlottesville, Virginia, where violent clashes erupted at the site of a white nationalist rally.
The Associated Press reported that the crash is linked to the rally.
The Federal Aviation Authority and Virginia State Police confirmed the 4:50 p.m. crash near the Birdwood Golf Course. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Earlier in the day, a car plowed into a crowd of people peacefully protesting a white nationalist rally in the Virginia college town, killing one person and hurting at least two dozen more.
Virginia State Police said Saturday that the helicopter crashed in a wooded area near a home. No one on the ground was injured.
