Wounded Warrior Project founder: Board cancels meeting with him

New developments in the changing face of the Wounded Warrior Project.

John Melia, the founder of the organization, posted on Facebook late Tuesday night that the board of directors cancelled a planned meeting with him next week.

We first told you last month that Melia expressed interest in returning to the troubled charity after two executives were fired amidst accusations of mismanagement. On Facebook, Melia posted this headline:

He goes on to say, "In my opinion, the board of directors is out of touch. Even after getting rid of the top two executives, the salaries of the remaining 14 average over $200,000 per year. This is not why we founded the Wounded Warrior Project.”

“Wounded Warrior Project board of directors turns its back on founders.”

Action News Jax’s Samantha Manning received a text message from Melia after he made the Facebook posts.

He said he thinks the board cancelled the meeting after he spoke with us about it Monday night. We have reached out to the organization's spokesperson for comment and will bring you that response as soon as we get it.
