JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are back in action for Opening Night of the 2021 season.
It’s giving families yet another fun event to experience as the city slowly starts getting back to normal.
The Currier family didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity.
Of course, things are looking a little different this year to make the season happen.
Greg Currier explains, “We’re very excited. We actually just finished T-ball season with Lincoln so we thought it was a great idea to get the family out to see some professionals play baseball.”
For starters, the stadium is only at about 45 percent capacity.
On Opening Night, there were 3,300 people in at the ballpark, at full capacity they can hold 9,000.
Masks are also required when people aren’t actively eating or drinking.
Precautions families we spoke to didn’t seem to mind.
Currier explains, “The kids are doing better with the masks than probably the adults are, but we’ll deal with what we got to do to be able to get out and see each other.”
Many are excited to get another slice of normalcy – especially for the kids.
A chance to once again create memories.
Josh Scott took his son Eli to his first game Tuesday.
He exclaims, " I’m really excited for him he is so excited he can’t stop talking baseball.”
