There will be special postcards at the libraries across the city with the following message:
"Dear Orlando – You are a city long celebrated for magic, wonder and fun. With the love, support and sentiments of millions around the world, you will smile again. One Jacksonville for One Orlando."
There is also a space for people to leave a personal message. The postcards will be delivered in the coming weeks.
Resident Kelly Carpenter said, “I think it’s a great idea. I think it supports Orlando Florida its citizens and brings awareness that is needed.”
The Jacksonville Public Library said it was happy to partner with Mayor Lenny Curry on the postcard campaign, giving residents a chance to share hope and love.
Library Spokesperson Chris Boivin said, “We think it’s a great opportunity for people to share their feelings share their sentiments and help people deal with this tragedy.”
From vigils and fundraisers to blood drivers, many people in Northeast Florida have already stepped up to show support. This new postcard campaign is one more way to do that with a personal touch.
“I support any cause that’s going to make people feel better in the wake of these tragedies we’ve had,” said resident Kassie Knoll.
The postcards will be collected from the Jacksonville libraries and delivered to Orlando on July 30, which is the International Day of Friendship.
