JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are investigating a shooting that injured a woman and killed a man early Friday morning.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office temporarily closed the off ramp of Interstate 95 north to Kings Road at about 4:30 a.m. for a couple of hours due to the investigation.
Two people were shot by someone in another vehicle while stopped at a traffic light at Old Kings Road and Interstate 95. The woman who was driving realized she and her passenger were shot.
Both were taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment. The man died from his injuries. The woman is in non-life-threatening condition, police said.
“She is alive at this point. She is suffering from at least one gunshot wound, but her condition is non-life threatening and our hope is that she will be able to speak with us here within the hour," said JSO Sgt. Michael Paul.
Friends of the man who died told Action News Jax was a father of three and that he had just left his birthday party at a nightclub before the being shot. Action News Jax is working to confirm the detail with officials.
"Where they were coming from, what they were doing, all that is going to play a part on whether this was random or if they were actually targeted," Paul said.
There is no description of the shooter or suspected vehicle.
Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000.
