JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local father is out of surgery, but the family has a lot of healing to do after a crash late Christmas Eve on Southside Boulevard. The family’s 12-year-old daughter did not survive.
Blue lights filled the intersection of Southside Boulevard and Southbrook Drive, around 11:50 p.m..
Florida Highway Patrol told Action News eight people were involved in the three-car crash.

Troopers say the New family was riding in a white Yukon, when it veered over into the black Civic’s lane and clipped it. The driver, Kent New, tried to get back in his lane but over corrected the car, hitting a silver CRV head-on. The SUV then flipped and landed upside down.
Florida Highway Patrol says everybody was wearing a seatbelt, except for Natalie New, 12. She died at UF Health Jacksonville around 6:00 a.m.

UF Health Jacksonville said Kent New got out of surgery and is still in serious condition.
Roberta New, Jennifer New, Carson New,12, and Zander New, 8, all have minor injuries.
Kent New is a doctor at St. Vincent's Hospital. They released this statement, "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the New family."
