ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A man is in custody Thursday morning after a high-speed chase through two counties.

The chase started in St. Johns County and ended with a crash in Duval County on Baymeadows Road near Baymeadows Regional Park.

Speeds reached over 100 mph as officers and deputies pursued an armed robbery suspect, who is accused of robbing a RaceTrac convenience store on State Road 16 in St. Johns County around 3 a.m. The unidentified man ran into the woods after the crash, and shortly after he was taken into custody.

Deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office say the car the man was driving was previously reported stolen.

"There were all kinds of sirens," said Riley Martin, who woke up to the commotion. "It was a loud wail.  It was more than just one cop going by. There were about six cops with sirens going off right there.  [They were] running around with assault rifles looking into the woods."

"This is a quiet area, and just to see that many cops with assault rifles looking into all different bushes and everywhere," said Martin. "It was definitely a scary situation, and a tense situation."
