25-year-old man receives three life sentences

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Joshua Brightman, 25, has been sentenced to three life sentences after he was convicted of attempted second-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and armed burglary.

Brightman also received a 15-year sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Brightman and Anthony Palmer kicked in the victims’ front door in June 2012, pointed their guns and demanded money.

One of the victims armed himself with a pistol, leading to a shootout between Brightman, Palmer and the victims.

During the shootout one of the victims was shot twice in the leg.

Hours before the shooting, Brightman and Palmer had gone to the victims’ home to buy a vehicle with cash in response to a Craigslist ad.

Palmer was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
