FHP: Van flees fatal seven-car crash on I-295

UPDATE: The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the victim in a fatal I-295 crash that involved seven cars on Tuesday.

A passenger van fled the scene of the 5:24 p.m. crash, which occurred at I-295 north just before Beach Blvd., troopers said.

Matthew James Joseph, 21, was the driver killed in the crash. Joseph was driving a 2003 Mustang that was rear-ended by another car, causing a chain reaction that involved seven cars. Joseph was wearing a seat belt.

None of the drivers of the other five cars suffered any injuries.

A vehicle, described as a passenger van, fled the scene of the crash, troopers said.

ORIGINAL STORY: There is a fatal crash on I-295 at Beach Blvd, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's live traffic crash and road condition report webpage.

According to FHP, the crash involved five vehicles.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said that due to the accident, all northbound lanes of I-295 were diverted to UNF Drive.

Traffic cameras at I-295 northbound just before Beach Blvd. showed the crash scene where several fire rescue units were on scene. Action News Jax First Alert Traffic Anchor Derick Odom says traffic is slow for miles.
