JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — No arrests have been made nearly four months after a Jacksonville mother was shot and killed in her home with her young son just feet away.
For the first time, the family of Kenya Davis is opening up only to Action News Jax about their heartache and need for justice.
“Kenya saw the good in everybody, no matter what,” said Kenya’s mom, Dorothy Davis.%

Kenya Davis was Dorothy Davis’ firstborn and her family said Kenya Davis spent the next 42 years of her life bringing joy to theirs.
“She was a giving, caring and loving person and good mother, hardworking,” said Dorothy Davis.
Kenya Davis' life was taken on the night of Jan. 3 at the Ortega Pines Apartments in Ortega Farms.
“My baby was home in her bed getting ready for work, and someone came up to her window and shot her multiple times -- multiple times,” Dorothy Davis said.
Kenya Davis’ boyfriend, who her family says was visiting that night, was hit by a bullet but was not seriously hurt. ;Davis’ 7 year-old son, who normally falls asleep in his mom’s bed, happened to be in his own room when a spray of gunshots erupted.
“Just by God’s grace and mercy, he was in his own bed that night,” Dorothy Davis said.
Both of Kenya Davis’ sons are without their mother, and after nearly four months, the family is without closure.
“I try to get some peace with it, and I can’t. I can’t until we get some justice,” Dorothy Davis said.
Kenya Davis’ family said she spoke with her brother around 9:45 p.m. that night. Some neighbors reported hearing the gunshots around 10:30 p.m. Her family wants anyone who remembers anything around that time frame or heard anything in the weeks since to come forward.
“Please give us a hand in trying to get my daughter’s murder solved,” said Kenya Davis’ father, Jack.
“I’m hurting and begging for somebody to tell the truth,” Dorothy Davis said.
The family will join M.A.D. D.A.D.S. for a candlelight vigil near the scene of the crime Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at 4884 Catoma Street. The public is urged to come out and help break the code of silence.
