6,000 Clay County residents without power on the Fourth of July

MIDDLEBURG, Fla — Power was quickly restored to several thousand Clay Electric Cooperative customers when the initial outage took place around 5 p.m.

Nearly 6,000 residents in Orange Park and Middleburg were not so lucky.

Those 6,000 homes were without power for nearly five hours during this holiday weekend. Power was restored to all but 47 homes shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday night.

A severe thunderstorm warning in Clay County earlier in the afternoon was the cause of the power outage.
