PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A Putnam County school crossing guard received top honors for saving two lives.
Florence Garris, known as Flo, got the Life Saving Medal from Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy Thursday.
In September, a man riding a bike with a 4-year-old boy crashed in an intersection. However, at the same time a car was driving in their direction and the driver was looking in the opposite direction for traffic.

So, 93-year-old Garris ran into the intersection, throwing herself between the car and the bicycle crash.
She was able to stop traffic and likely saved the lives of the man and boy.
The day before the incident, Garris had a surgical procedure on her heart, said the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
