JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As millions of people hit the roads or the skies for the long holiday weekend, AAA says people are paying more for Labor Day travel this year than last year.
According to AAA booking data, “average domestic airfare is up 2% compared to last year, averaging $750 for a roundtrip ticket.”
If you’re hitting the roads, AAA says the average price of regular gasoline in Florida is currently $3.93 cents compared to $3.14 cents this time last year.
Despite the increase, Suzette Brown, who is driving from Fort Lauderdale to Richmond, Virginia, didn’t seem to be bothered.
“We have to buy gas,” said Brown. “So it’s not like we don’t want to buy gas, we have to, so we can’t complain about the price right?”
As for how many people are traveling, the Transportation Security Administration says they expect to screen over 17 million people between last Thursday and Wednesday.
For drivers, AAA says congestion is to be expected. However, Brown says she’s had no issues.
“We’re enjoying it so far,” said Brown. “It’s nice.”
