ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — Police found an Alachua County detention officer unresponsive at the wheel after reports of a wrong-way driver early Saturday morning.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office received several calls around 3:30 a.m. about a car traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.
Police found 23-year-old Hamza Amer ‘unresponsive’ in the driver seat of a car at the intersection of US 441 and SW Williston Road.
His blood alcohol level was .188.
Amer was hired by ACSO in Sept. 2015 and worked at the jail.
He was placed on administrative suspension with pay pending the outcome of the case and an internal administrative investigation.
