WAYCROSS, Ga. — A bomb threat at Memorial Satilla Health in Ware County was deemed not credible after law enforcement surrounded the facility Thursday evening.

Waycross police responded to the hospital and established a perimeter before later clearing the scene.

The incident began before 6 p.m. and resulted in traffic being redirected away from the hospital and surrounding streets. Police disassembled their response and allowed traffic to resume moving through the area by 7 p.m.

Action News Jax reporter Madison Foglio was in the area and observed Waycross police officers running through the streets toward the hospital. Officers established a perimeter that surrounded the entire facility while law enforcement investigated the report.

While information from within the hospital indicated a threat had been made inside the facility, it remains unclear if staff members were officially instructed to evacuate.

Memorial Satilla Health addressed the incident in a written statement to Action News Jax following the police investigation.

“We received a bomb threat earlier today,” a hospital official said in the statement. “No credible threat was found and normal operations continue. The safety of our patients, visitors and colleagues remains our highest priority and we are grateful to our security team and law enforcement for their swift response.”

Normal operations at the hospital have resumed. Traffic flow on the streets surrounding the facility returned to a regular pattern following the departure of law enforcement.
