All southbound lanes on I-295 near Collins Road are blocked due to a crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update 6 p.m.: 1/10/2023

The Florida Highway Patrol issued a release stating that a Sedan was traveling southbound on Interstate 295, north of Collins Rd, in the inside lane, while a sport utility vehicle was traveling in the same direction; but in the outside lane.

The Sedan merged right into the oncoming path of the sports vehicle, causing the Sedan’s right front to collide or “sideswiped” with the utility vehicle’s rear.

The impact between both vehicles caused the Sedan to travel off the roadway, crossing the outside shoulder and traveling down the outside embankment while overturning.

It came to its final rest upright in standing water. The sport utility vehicle was relocated to the outside shoulder, facing south.

Reports state that the extrication of driver from the Sedan resulted in several lanes of I-295 being closed for an extended period, as well as the driver suffering serious injuries.

The roadway is now open; but facing many delays due to the backup. This crash is still pending investigation.
