JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some rewarding learning experiences don't take place in a classroom or even inside a school. It happens when we put students, in touch with something that truly excites and inspires them.
The city's first automotive museum will open soon at the old Montgomery Ward store at the Regency Square Mall. The museum's Executive Director Bruce Marble said it will be designed to teach people, especially children, about car history.
"We designed this and built this to give back to the community,” Marble said. “(We want to) give back to kids, to get the kids involved in the transportation industry."
The museum currently houses three dozen classic and rare cars. The goal is raise that number to 100, from muscle cars to exotic sports cars.
Marble said the museum was financed by anonymous angel investors. In addition, car owners pay to have their cars stored and displayed.
Children and adults can also try their skill at racing simulators.
Marble said the museum to expect to be fully open to the public in the next 60 days.
The cost of admission is expected to be about $5.
The funds are used to show children how to be safe behind the wheel and to take care of a car.
