It’s been a hot topic on social media: People are wondering what’s causing the ocean’s browner-than-normal tint.
“It didn’t smell strange, so I went in a little bit,” beachgoer Vicki Somoya said.
Beachgoers from Atlantic Beach to Ponte Vedra Beach have posted about the color of the ocean.
“I don’t think it’s a fungus or a problem with any kind of disease,” neighbor George Rose said.
We sent pictures of the water to Jacksonville University marine expert Dr. Quinton White, who said the coloring is from the recent storms and river water being flushed in with normal seawater.
We're told there's no health risk associated with the murky coloring.
White said at worst it will just be an inconvenience, because it may take weeks for the color to go back to normal.
