Black bear spotted in Keystone Heights neighborhood

A Florida black bear was spotted in a Keystone Heights neighborhood.

The North Florida Land Trust said the bear was caught checking out trash cans in the middle of the night last week.

They said black bears use the connector lands of the Ocala to Osceola Wildlife Corridor to forage and migrate.

This sometimes includes foraging through garbage cans in rural neighborhoods.

The organization is warning families it’s important that residents in black bear habitats take measures to prevent trash foraging, like using bear-proof garbage cans and not putting garbage out overnight.
