PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A body was recovered Wednesday evening in Cowpen Lake in western Putnam County.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office was called to East Cowpen Lake Point Road in Hawthorne around 5:27 p.m. Wednesday, according to PCSO Sgt. Hancel Woods.
Woods told Action News early indications are that the man was involved in a canoeing accident. He said the lake ranges from about 2-7 feet deep.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will handle the investigation because it involves a boating accident.
“Initial indications are that it was a boating accident,” said Woods. “That he was out on the boat, apparently without a life preserver or life jacket, and had some sort of boating accident. He ended up in the water.”
Woods said the body was discovered by a friend who was looking for the person.
The name and age of the victim have not yet been released.
