BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A 20-year-old Brunswick man was arrested on charges including murder following a fatal shooting Sunday in Brunswick. Police arrested Jason Middlebrooks after responding to gunfire and finding 43-year-old James Randall Myers, of Richmond Hill who died at the scene from a gunshot wound, a Tuesday police news release states.
Brunswick Police officers were in the area of Bay Street on Sunday when they heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from just east of their location, the news release states.
Officers searched the surrounding area, spotted Middlebrooks running away on foot and detained him following a brief pursuit. Police then located Myers in the 1500 block of Grant Street suffering from a gunshot wound. Myers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined Middlebrooks was in possession of a stolen firearm and a stolen motor vehicle when he was detained. Police said both stolen items were unrelated to the shooting. Middlebrooks faces multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He was also charged with theft by taking of a firearm and theft by taking of a motor vehicle.
